A BILL to amend article two, chapter two of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended,
by adding thereto a new section, designated section one-b,
relating to declaring that a national day of mourning after
a president's death be a state holiday.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article two, chapter two of the code of West Virginia,
one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by
adding thereto a new section, designated section one-b, to read
as follows:
ARTICLE 2. LEGAL HOLIDAYS; SPECIAL MEMORIAL DAYS; CONSTRUCTION
OF STATUTES; DEFINITIONS.
§2-2-1b. Death of president.
When a president of the United States dies, any national day
of mourning that is declared is hereby declared a state holiday
as a show of respect for the president and his or her office.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require that a state
holiday be declared when a national day of mourning is declared
because of a president's death.
